The goal of the Minnewaska Media Center program is to provide students with the skills to locate, evaluate and apply information, to develop a love of literature and reading, to develop skills for independent library use and to encourage lifelong learning.
The Minnewaska Media Center has thirty eight computers available for student use. Students have access to Microsoft Office products to use to complete school assignments. The Internet is available to do school research. The students also have access to the online SIRS database which contains thousands of full-text articles on numerous social issues. The students can access Destiny, the online catalog, to see what books are available for check out. Accelerated Reader tests can also be taken on the media center computers.
Minnewaska High School students taking online classes during the school day can access their college class portals in the Media Center.
The 5th and 6th grade intermediate book collection and the 7-12 high school book collection includes a comprehensive selection of fiction and nonfiction books to meet a wide variety of student reading levels, interests and needs. The collection is continually being updated to meet curriculum and recreational reading needs. The students also have access to over 50 current print magazines and newspapers.
