How to Turn in a College Application—in 4 Steps!

Step #1: Decide: What type of Application(s) to fill out? All applications should be completed on-line.

¨Online “COMMON APPLICATION” (should be used if at least 1 of your schools is a “COMMON APP” school. Website: www.commonapp.org.)

¨Online individual school application

Step #2: Complete the application to the best of your ability. We will be able to answer your question at your appointment.

Step #3: Look through the application. Check DEADLINES, FEES and RECOMMENDATIONS. BRING or DO the following BEFORE your appointment with your counselor.

¨Counselor/School Report Form (either a form for Counselor to complete or a written recommendation)

¨Just a form- Bring it with you! (read it carefully—sometimes within the form it will ask for a written eval.)

¨Written evaluation—(Plan Ahead! Your counselor needs at least two weeks notice.)

¨Teacher(s) Recommendation

¨May not be required

¨Yes—required for application (Plan Ahead! Teachers need at least two weeks notice.)

¨Request that your teacher(s) write a recommendation. Most colleges want recommendations from Math, English, Social Studies, or Science teachers.

¨Transcripts—(required for all applications). Fill out a Transcript Request form in the GO. The school sends your official transcript directly to the college.

¨To request a transcript from ATCC go to www.getmytranscript.com.  These cost $5.

¨ACT, SAT or Accuplacer Scores

¨Contact ACT or SAT (CollegeBoard) to have your scores sent if you did not request at the time you registered for the test.

STEP #4: Make an appointment with your counselor!

¨Bring any additional forms and questions with you.
