MAS Students Exceed State Averages in 2025 MCA Results

Minnewaska Area Schools is proud to announce the 2025 Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) results, which show district students continuing to perform above state proficiency averages and rank as the leader in science, math and reading in the conference

2025 Results Show Strong Performance

District-wide MCA results for 2025 demonstrate that Minnewaska students are thriving academically:

Reading (Grades 3-8 and 10th grade):

  • Minnewaska: 57.8% proficient
  • Statewide: 49.6% proficient
  • MAS students performed 8.2 percentage points above the state average

Math (Grades 3-8 and 11th grade):

  • Minnewaska: 61.6% proficient
  • Statewide: 45.2% proficient
  • MAS students performed 16.4 percentage points above the state average

Five Years of Excellence

The 2025 results continue a positive five-year trend. Minnewaska students have exceeded state proficiency rates every year from 2021-2025 in both reading and math.

Reading Proficiency Trends:

  • 2021: 52.9% (State: 52.5%)
  • 2022: 55.3% (State: 51.1%)
  • 2023: 59.6% (State: 49.9%)
  • 2024: 55.9% (State: 49.5%)
  • 2025: 57.8% (State: 49.6%)

Math Proficiency Trends:

  • 2021: 57.0% (State: 44.2%)
  • 2022: 55.9% (State: 44.8%)
  • 2023: 58.8% (State: 45.5%)
  • 2024: 60.2% (State: 45.5%)
  • 2025: 61.6% (State: 45.2%)

“These results reflect the incredible dedication of our students, the expertise of our teachers, and the strong partnership with our families,” said Superintendent Chip Rankin. “We’re proud of our Lakers and the academic excellence they demonstrate year after year.”

About MCA Testing

The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments are required state tests administered to students in:

  • Reading: Grades 3-8 and 10th grade
  • Math: Grades 3-8 and 11th grade
  • Science: Grades 5 and 8, and once in high school (new test in 2025, no trend data yet available)

Supporting Continued Excellence

The November 4th bond referendum includes investments designed to support continued academic achievement, including:

  • Expanded Career and Technical Education (CTE) spaces for hands-on learning
  • Modernized media centers creating collaborative learning environments
  • Updated infrastructure supporting effective teaching and learning
  • Enhanced security allowing students to focus on education

“Our students deserve learning spaces that match the quality of education our teachers provide,” Rankin added. “These facility improvements will help us continue supporting the academic excellence our community expects.”

Vote early and absentee: Now – November 3 at the MAS District Office, Door #1 – Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. *Voting will not be available on October 16 or 17.

Vote Tuesday, November 4 at the Pope County Courthouse – 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
