MAS Next Superintendent Selected
The Minnewaska Area School Board is pleased to announce the selection of Scott Lempka as the next Superintendent of Minnewaska Area Schools (ISD 2149), effective July 1, 2026.
The board conducted the search in partnership with the Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) Executive Search Service. The search drew a strong pool of highly qualified candidates, reflecting the strength of Minnewaska Area Schools as a district and a community. Following formal interviews on April 7, which included a tour of all district buildings, the board voted unanimously to select Mr. Lempka. His contract will be approved at a special meeting on April 13, 2026 at 7:30 a.m.
Mr. Lempka brings a deep familiarity with Minnewaska Area Schools, having served the district for several years as both an Elementary and Middle School Principal. Most recently, he served as Superintendent of Lac qui Parle Valley Schools. His roots in the Minnewaska community, combined with his leadership experience, made him a compelling choice for the board.
“We are thrilled to welcome Scott Lempka back to Minnewaska Area Schools,” said School Board Chair Ted Reichmann. “The board was impressed by the depth of candidates who applied for this position, and after a thorough process, it was clear that Mr. Lempka’s experience, his genuine passion for this community, and his collaborative leadership style make him the right person to lead our district. We look forward to the future he will help build for our students and families.”
Mr. Lempka expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity ahead. “I am truly honored to serve as the next Superintendent of Minnewaska Area Schools,” said Mr. Lempka. “My time as a Principal here gave me a deep appreciation for this community and the incredible students, staff, and families that make this district so special. I am excited to return and to work together to continue building on the strong foundation that exists here. It is a privilege to be a Laker.”
Mr. Lempka will officially begin his role on July 1, 2026. The board expressed gratitude to outgoing Superintendent Chip Rankin for his service to the district and wished him well as he transitions to Brainerd Public Schools.
