Minnewaska Area Schools Adopts Calendar for the 2023-24 School Year

Glenwood, Minn.—March 29, 2023—At a recent board meeting, Minnewaska Area Schools (MAS) District adopted a primary 2023-2024 calendar for the upcoming 2023-24 school year. The district has also submitted a Flexible Learning Year application to the Minnesota Department of Education and is awaiting approval for a Pre-Labor Day start.

The district will implement the primary 2023-2024 calendar if the Minnesota Department of Education approves the application. This calendar is designed to provide students with a more flexible and personalized learning experience that will allow them to learn at their own pace and engage in more project-based learning opportunities. 

However, if the Minnesota Department of Education does not approve the application, the district will implement the 2023-2024 Post-Labor Day calendar. This calendar will follow a traditional school year schedule, with classes beginning after Labor Day.

MDE has up to 45 days to review the district’s application. A decision is expected by the end of May. In the meantime, the district has approved that both calendars will remain in effect until the regular board meeting in June.
