Food Benefits for Students Extended to July 31st
July 23, 2020
In addition to keeping people away from work, Covid-19 has kept children away from school for months. This has been particularly difficult for families with children who were receiving free and reduced-price meals every day through the National School Lunch Program. In response, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act authorized the implementation of Pandemic EBT (P-EBT), a federal initiative providing eligible families with a replacement food benefit to pay for groceries. This new, temporary program provides a monetary benefit that is intended to help supplement food costs due the closure of schools. If your child was receiving free or reduced price lunch during the 2019-2020 school year and you have not already applied, please do so by visiting www.mn.p-ebt.org before July 31, 2020. If you have questions regarding your case or benefit dispersement, please call the P-EBT Hotline at (651) 431-4050 or toll free at (800) 657-3698.
Separate from P-EBT, the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), provides free meals to ALL youth 18 and under during the summer months. No ID or registration is required to participate, so receiving food is not contingent on income. For more information –
