MAS Working Through Plan for Fall 2020

July 23, 2020

Minnewaska Area Schools has been working diligently to plan for the 2020-2021 school year. Our top priority is providing a safe learning environment while continuing to provide high-quality education to our students.

Using guidance from the Minnesota Governor’s office, MAS has been planning for three possible scenarios including in-person classroom learning, distance learning, or a hybrid combination of in-person and distance learning.

The Governor’s office is expected to release education guidelines for the upcoming school year the week of July 27. MAS will then evaluate the next steps to implement a prepared education plan that best fits our district, while also considering Minnesota Department of Education and Minnesota Department of Health guidelines. We will communicate each school’s plan to parents and families through School Messenger and on the news section of our website.

In these ever-changing times, any plan implemented will be fluid and may change and evolve as new information becomes available. It is vital to stay nimble and flexible to accommodate the needs and wants of families and we recognize this is not a one size fits all scenario. The goal of MAS is to communicate our plan as quickly as possible.

The MAS District Advisory Council met Tuesday, July 21 and listened to the district plans and priorities. The group of community members broke into small groups to discuss students’ needs at each school. They participated in rich conversations and heartfelt discussions allowing a further understanding of how learning looked last spring and how to meet the needs of students this fall.

Because we value your feedback and are committed to providing our families choices to meet their educational needs, in early August we are planning to personally reach out to every family whose children attend MAS. A member of the MAS staff will be calling each family to discuss the individual needs of your child(ren) and the upcoming school year. If we are unable to reach you, a follow up survey or contact information will be provided.

We are dedicated to continually monitor the safety and education of our students and keep you informed at every step along the way. We care focused and committed to our Minnewaska family.
