Sidney Schiffler Hired as New Head Girls’ Basketball Coach
Minnewaska Area High School is excited to announce the hiring of Sidney Schiffler as the new Head Coachof the Minnewaska Area Girls’ Basketball program. In making this decision, Minnewaska Area Schools recently interviewed a number of highly qualified candidates through a vetting process that included members of the school administration, board of education, and community members.
Sidney, currently a teacher at the district’s WIN Academy, brings with her years of basketball playing experience that began growing up in Albany, Minnesota. At Albany High School she played for one of the top programs in the state as a varsity team member of the Huskies for five seasons. Following graduation from AHS, she continued her basketball career at the College of St. Benedict where she developed into one of the top three point shooting guards in the nation in NCAA Division III while playing for the Blazers and legendary Coach Mike Durbin. She graduated from CSB earning a degree in elementary education with a minor in psychology.
In looking forward to taking the reigns as the head girls’ basketball coach at Minnewaska, Sidney stated, “Throughout all of my high school, AAU, and collegiate basketball experiences, I have built a strong understanding of the game. I know it takes more than points to be successful. It takes time in the off-season to work on one’s game to become better and to better the team. It takes trust from the entire coaching staff and support from all teammates, no matter their role. I will do everything in my power in working to make this a successful program and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.”
“Basketball has always been a part of my life, and is to this day. It will be a privilege to be a part of the Minnewaska Girls’ Basketball program and to share the knowledge I have gained through my experiences with all of our girls in grades K-12. I’m extremely excited for the opportunity and ready to get started right away!”
