Learn more about Currens and why she’s passionate about early childhood education.
What was your previous position with MAS before this new position?
I started at MAS as a preschool teacher and a Coordinator of Special Education Services for the elementary school.
What is your background?
I have more than 30 years of experience working in early childhood programs. I hold a master’s degree in education and administrative licenses as a K-12 principal and director of special education. I taught early childhood special education for 19 years at Paynesville Area Schools. I served as a special education supervisor for 12 years at the Benton-Stearns Education District, primarily for early childhood.
Why are you passionate about helping preschoolers learn and grow?
We see tremendous growth and development for many children immersed in developmentally appropriate interactive experiences in the classroom. My philosophy is rooted in these practices and teaching children through play.
What makes Little Lakers Preschool special?
Amazing things are happening at Little Lakers Preschool. Our teachers do an excellent job using our curriculum, standards, and best practices to teach our young learners in fun and engaging ways.
We also have access to Early Learning Corps and early childhood special education teachers and specialists, as needed. These additional services can give many children the boost they need to enhance their learning through their K-12 education.
Currens looks forward to meeting more families and working alongside the staff to continue expanding and improving Little Lakers Preschool programming.
Little Lakers Preschool classes are held from September to May each school year at our Glenwood and Starbuck locations. Class options include half- and full-day programming 2, 3, or 5 days a week. View class offerings and register.
