The School Board must have a quorum, or four members, present before it can take official action. Most board actions may be approved by a simple majority of the membership present. The Board is responsible for control of local school matter subject to only the limitations imposed by state law and regulations of the Minnesota Department of Education.
SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS
The School Board normally meets for their regular meeting on the third Monday of each month, with the exception of February. The 2017 January Regular Board Meeting will be held Monday, January 23, 2017 due to the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Holiday and the February Regular Board Meeting will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2017 due to the Presidents' Day Holiday. The regular meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. and are held in the Board Room at Minnewaska Area High School, located at 25122 State Highway 28, Glenwood, MN unless otherwise noted.
Special meetings, including public hearings, may be called to address certain issues. These meetings will be announced by postings on the bulletin board outside the District Office. Changes to the regular meeting schedule will also be addressed in the same manner. All meetings of the board are open to the public unless the meeting is closed per Minnesota Data Privacy Laws.
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION AT BOARD MEETINGS
The School Board desires public attendance at its meetings, and has the responsibility for conducting its business in a public and orderly fashion. The Chairperson will provide the audience with an opportunity to speak during the visitor’s comment section. Visitor’s comments shall be limited to five minutes and should not include the topics of students or personnel, which are deemed private data in Minnesota and not allowed at a public meeting. The Board may respond to visitor comments or refer the issue to the appropriate administrative staff.
Meetings of the School Board will follow a standard agenda, which is tentatively set the week prior to the meeting. Items may be added during the approval of the agenda section, but many items require appropriate background information for the board to reach a decision and may be forwarded to a future meeting.
The School Board schedules a number of committee meetings to investigate and discuss issues before sending their recommendation to the full board for ultimate action. These committees include: Activities, Applied Technology, Facilities, Finance, Personnel, Policy, World's Best Workforce, Legislative Action, etc. and are posted outside the District Office and on the district website.
We are pleased that you have decided to attend this meeting and we invite you to attend future meetings.
